Car likes to give incentives to promote road safety
An online educational journey
The micromobility company Voi offers a free ride to those who participate in its free online traffic school, RideSafe Academy.
This program covers safety and traffic rules for electric scooters and bikes. Voi describes the RideSafe Academy as a series of online micro-courses that teach essential knowledge and useful tips on local traffic rules and driver safety, “in a fun and engaging way.” It is accessible to everyone, whether they are customers of Voi or not. The RideSafe Academy is designed to be accessible and engaging for drivers of all experience levels.
Course content
The courses cover various topics related to the safety of electric scooters and bikes, local traffic rules, and responsible parking practices.
Last month, the Swedish company also offered free rides and a helmet to those who participated in a free safe driving skills session in Southampton. Participants were able to learn more about Voi scooters and develop their driving skills.
Legality of electric scooters
In the UK, electric scooters can currently only be ridden on public roads when rented under official trial programs.
In 2022, the government announced that these vehicles would be made legal by creating a category of low-speed, zero-emission vehicles, but this has been delayed several times. Earlier this year, the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety stated that the likelihood of legislating for private scooters in 2024 was “nil.”
Safer choices for a sustainable urban future
James Bolton, Voi’s Managing Director in the UK, said: “By offering a free and accessible platform to learn about the safety and traffic rules of electric scooters and bikes, we enable our users to make safer choices and contribute to safer streets for everyone.”
With the RideSafe Academy, we aim to set a new standard for the micromobility industry, emphasizing the importance of education to create a more responsible and sustainable urban future. I hope this will give even more people the confidence to use an electric scooter or bike as a practical way to get around without causing congestion or pollution.”
