The government launches an initiative to stimulate bicycle production in France
In line with national ambitions for green mobility, the French government implemented a new initiative on Monday, April 22, aiming to promote the manufacturing of bicycles on the national territory, including electric bikes. A budget of 55 million euros has been allocated to support this approach.
A strategy to strengthen local production
The initiative announced by Roland Lescure, Minister Delegate in charge of Industry, is called “Bicycle Industry”. This project, managed by ADEME on behalf of the State, aims to foster the emergence of innovative solutions in the cycling sector in France.
The target is ambitious: to assemble 1.4 million bicycles annually on French soil by 2027, and to aim for 2 million by 2030.
Criteria and challenges of the call for projects
Candidates for state aid must focus on the development and assembly of bicycles and components, the integration of advanced technologies, as well as ecological design, including aspects related to recycling and reuse. These orientations align with the goals of an environmental dynamic and environmentally respectful production.
For entrepreneurs driven by a passion for this sector, this initiative announces substantial support contributing to the rise of a competitive national industry and job creation. The minister emphasizes the importance of this boost for repatriating production and, by extension, stimulating local employment.
Modalities of participation
The deadline to submit projects extends until December 9, 2024, with a first evaluation scheduled for the coming September 2nd.
