Llobe: The German Electric Bike Brand in Trouble
The Llobe brand, known for its affordable electric bikes, is going through a critical period. Distributed in France by Decathlon, as well as by Aldi and Action, Llobe has recently filed for bankruptcy and initiated insolvency proceedings.
An Alarming Situation
Llobe, which aims to make electric assist bikes (EAB) accessible with attractive prices, is in great difficulty. According to SAZBike, relayed by eBike News, the company Llobe GmbH & Co filed for bankruptcy on May 3, 2024. An administrator has been appointed by the Mönchengladbach district court to oversee the proceedings.
Insolvency does not immediately mean the end of the company. It is a state where a company can no longer meet its financial commitments due to significant debts or insufficient income. However, this situation can lead to bankruptcy, resulting in the liquidation of the company’s assets. Llobe could still find a buyer to continue its activity.
A Well-Established Brand
Llobe made a name for itself in Germany with conventional electric bikes sold at modest prices. Although most of its products are not currently available online, eBike News mentions that their prices often hover around 1000 euros.
Distribution in France
In France, Llobe is distributed by Decathlon. Three models of electric bikes are available, two trekking bikes and one electric assist mountain bike (VTTAE), all sold for less than 2000 euros.
The precise reasons for this insolvency are not known. However, the crisis affecting the cycling sector in 2023 continues to have repercussions in 2024.
Llobe is going through difficult times and could disappear if no buyer comes forward. However, the brand remains an attractive option thanks to its competitive prices, particularly in France where it continues to be available through Decathlon.
