Tesla deploys a hundred electric trucks across the United States
Real-world tests
Thanks to a collaboration with PepsiCo, Tesla has launched a fleet of 100 electric trucks, the Semi, to fine-tune the model’s settings. One unit has already covered more than 400,000 km, providing valuable data on the aging and consumption of this ambitious truck.
Millions of kilometers accumulated
For a year and a half, this hundred Tesla Semis have been crisscrossing the roads of North America, accumulating over 12 million kilometers. One of the trucks has even exceeded 400,000 km, proving the endurance of the electric vehicle.
Energy performance
Dan Priestley, director of the Tesla Semi program, presented impressive results at the IAA conference in Germany. The Semi’s availability rate reached 95% over an 18-month period, a significant advantage for transport companies.
Electric consumption
The Tesla Semi consumes about 100 kWh per 100 km, or 1.6 kWh per mile, a consumption lower than the initial forecasts of 1.7 kWh per mile. This efficiency allows the truck to travel more than 1,600 km per day with its XXL battery, estimated at 900 kWh. This performance far exceeds the daily average of 467 km for a truck driver in France according to 2021 data.
Response to critics
Tesla thus proves that electric trucks can compete with diesel tractors, addressing skeptics and laying the foundation for a revolution in freight transport.
