Summary
A new affordable electric gravel
The German manufacturer Smafo has launched a new electric gravel bike named MATS. This model stands out for its accessible price while maintaining quality equipment. Typically, electric gravels are expensive, but MATS offers a reasonable alternative at 2499 euros. At this price, it comes equipped with mudguards and a luggage rack.
A Bafang motor to reduce costs
To keep a competitive price, Smafo opted for a Bafang motor instead of choosing brands like Bosch or Shimano, which are generally more expensive. This motor offers a torque of 45 Nm with a power of 250 W and weighs 2.4 kg. The bike has a total weight of 19.9 kg and includes a torque sensor.
Autonomy and technical characteristics
The MATS is equipped with a 360 Wh battery integrated into the frame, ensuring a theoretical range of 100 km depending on the assistance mode, the terrain, and the weight of the user. The eco mode seems to favor this maximum range.
Reliable components from Shimano and Schwalbe
The bike is equipped with 28-inch Schwalbe G-ONE tires, Shimano GRX hydraulic disc brakes, and an 11-speed GRX transmission. For a price of 2500 euros, the equipment is both reassuring and of good quality, thanks to the use of renowned brands such as Shimano and Schwalbe.
Two sizes available
The MATS model is offered in two sizes to suit different users: one for people measuring between 160 and 180 cm, and the other for people measuring between 170 and 195 cm. A launch offer includes the rear luggage rack and mudguards.
