Return of Famel with an electric motorcycle
Renewal of a Portuguese legend
Launched in 1949, Famel went bankrupt in the early 2000s. However, the manufacturer is making a strong comeback with the Famel E-FX, an electric motorcycle inspired by the iconic FX-17 model. This return is marked by significant fundraising. While other mobility icons are slow to be reborn, Famel is taking the lead. In 2021, a project for an electric motorcycle inspired by the FX-17 had already attracted attention. This fall 2024, the company announces a new initiative to restart production, with 2.45 million euros already obtained from the Portuguese NOVUS fund and ongoing negotiations to reach 10 million euros.
European production and technical specifications
Inspired by the FX-17, the Famel E-FX will be available in 50 or 125 cc versions. It can be equipped with one or two 1.8 kWh batteries, offering an optimistic range of 70 to 125 km per charge. The maximum engine power is 5 kW, which seems modest for a motorcycle in the 125 cc category. Notably, Famel indicates that the majority of the parts in its electric motorcycle will be of European origin, with 50% manufactured in Portugal.
Availability and pre-reservations
Although the release date of the Famel E-FX has not yet been specified, pre-reservations are open. An initial deposit of 500 to 600 € is required to reserve a motorcycle.
