The Isinwheel U3 is a foldable electric bike that stands out due to its compactness and features suited for urban use. With a 250 W motor and a foldable design, it positions itself as an ideal solution for daily commutes. Here is my detailed review after testing this model.
My opinion on the Isinwheel U3
Our bike test
Strengths:
- Ultra convenient foldable design: ideal for city dwellers and travelers.
- 250 W motor: powerful enough for urban trips.
- Range up to 55 km: perfect for daily use.
- Reduced charging time: only 2 to 3 hours.
- Enhanced safety: hydraulic disc brakes and efficient LED lighting.
Weaknesses:
- Limited off-road capability: better suited for the city than rough trails.
- Maximum load of 120 kg: caution for users close to this limit.
First impression and handling
Upon receiving the bike, the Isinwheel U3 impresses with its compactness and reasonable weight (23.3 kg). Once unfolded, it reveals a sleek and modern design, with a robust alloy steel frame and neat finishes.
The adjustable handlebars and saddle allow easy adaptation for users measuring between 1.55 m and 1.80 m. Its handling is immediate, and the first sensations on the handlebars are very pleasant. The posture is comfortable thanks to an ergonomic saddle, while the grips ensure a good hold.
However, one remains skeptical about the presence of the small seat at the rear in place of the luggage rack. It can potentially be used to hold some groceries, but it’s impossible to carry someone on it.
City test
In urban environments, the Isinwheel U3 showcases its full potential. Its compact size and 16-inch tires offer exceptional maneuverability, particularly useful for weaving through crowded streets.
The 250 W motor, although modest, provides smooth and sufficient assistance for starting at traffic lights or small climbs. The four-speed modes (10, 15, 25, and 30 km/h) allow easy adaptation to traffic conditions.
Appreciated features:
- Lightweight and foldable: perfect for public transport or home storage.
- Hydraulic disc brakes: precise and reassuring braking, even in the rain.
- LED lighting: the 111 lumens front headlight offers optimal visibility at night.
Minor downside: The 16-inch tires, although practical in the city, limit stability on cobblestone or uneven roads.
Trail test
Although this bike is primarily designed for urban use, I wanted to test its performance on more rugged paths. The sturdy frame and adjustable suspension fork provide some comfort, but the narrow tires (16 x 1.75 inches) quickly show their limits.
That said, for relatively flat and mildly rugged paths, the Isinwheel U3 remains effective, notably thanks to its well-calibrated derailleur and good weight distribution.
Battery and range
The Isinwheel U3 is equipped with a 36 V, 7.8 Ah lithium-ion battery, offering a range of 35 to 55 km, depending on the driving mode used. During my tests, I covered about 45 km using mainly the intermediate assistance mode.
The charging time of only 2 to 3 hours is a real advantage for daily use. The battery is also weatherproof thanks to its IP65 waterproof rating, providing reassurance in case of rain.
Test in rainy and night conditions
In rainy conditions, the bike proves to be reliable, notably thanks to its hydraulic brakes and well-positioned mudguards, which prevent splashes. The tires, although small, offer decent grip on wet surfaces.
Night riding is also pleasant thanks to the front and rear LED lighting, offering good visibility. A small plus: the front headlight is powerful enough to see and be seen, even in poorly lit areas.
