Cycling means for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games
Bike mobility during the Olympic festivities
As the French capital prepares to host the Olympic Games from July 26 to August 11, 2024, the use of bicycles is emerging as an attractive alternative to the anticipated congestion of public transport. There are various opportunities for anyone wishing to cycle through Paris during this global event.
The Vélib’ Métropole network at the service of users
The Vélib’ Métropole shared bicycle service, currently with 1,475 rental points and 19,000 bicycles – 40% of which are electric – is preparing for the excitement of the Olympics by adding 3,000 two-wheelers and additional temporary and permanent stations. Identifiable by their green or blue color for the mechanical or electric version, these bikes will be accessible via a dedicated app, allowing users to plan routes and purchase tickets or passes, ranging from pay-as-you-go to daily or weekly passes.
The Véligo proposal for the Olympic duration
The operator Fluow has announced a special Olympic subscription for its Véligo offering, concerning the rental of private VAEs in Île-de-France, with availability ranging from one to two months, at a price of 53.90 euros per month, which is a 35% increase compared to the usual rate. Interested parties are advised to reserve one month before the start of the event to guarantee availability.
The players in shared electric bikes: Lime, Dott, and Tier
During the sporting event of the year, Lime, Dott, and Tier, the operators of self-service electric bicycles, plan to expand their fleets and adjust their offerings. From rate increases to the creation of specific packages, users will have to register on the respective platforms to benefit from the services. Dott and Tier, which have recently merged, are looking to expand their coverage area in discussion with the Interministerial Delegation for the Olympic Games (DIJOP).
The development of cycling paths for the occasion
In order to facilitate travel between Olympic sites, an Olympic cycling network will be developed, connecting the various event locations. These routes will integrate into the 3,360 km of tracks already present in Île-de-France, offering cyclists an enriched and sustainable experience as these additions will be made permanent.
Bicycle safety: a major issue
Respecting the basic rules of good conduct remains essential to maintain order and ensure safety during the influx of the Olympics. Knowledge of specific traffic signs and responsible attitudes are indispensable for cycling safely in Paris. It is therefore crucial to inform oneself on the subject to ride with peace of mind.
