Honda pursues its goal of launching electric vehicles
Honda has reached a new milestone towards its ambitious goal of launching 30 electric vehicles by 2030, with the introduction of two new electric scooters exclusively for the Indonesian market: the CUV e: and the ICON e:.
The importance of the Indonesian market
The choice of Indonesia for this world premiere is no accident. As one of the largest motorcycle markets in the world, the country recorded sales of 5.2 million units in 2022. With an impressive market share of 73.8%, Honda seizes this initiative to consolidate its leading position while responding to government incentives in favor of electric vehicles.
Introduction of new models
The CUV e:, the electric equivalent of a 110 cc scooter, is a direct evolution of the SC e: concept. Its name pays homage to the 1994 CUV ES, Honda’s first electric scooter. Although the current design is more modern, some enthusiasts may miss the iconic turquoise blue of the original model.
Meanwhile, the ICON e: is based on the EM1 e: model and has been specially redesigned for the Indonesian market. It uses a ternary lithium battery, which can be charged directly on the scooter or removed for external charging.
Local production and technical features
Both models will be produced locally in Indonesia. The CUV e: offers three driving modes – Standard, Sport, and Econ – as well as a reverse mode. Optionally, it can be equipped with the Honda RoadSync Duo system, allowing riders to connect their smartphones to access features such as phone calls, music playback, and navigation.
Global strategy and response to local needs
This launch represents not only an advance in Honda’s global electrification strategy but also a response to the specific needs of the Indonesian market, thus demonstrating the brand’s flexibility in adapting its solutions to different regional contexts.
