Electric motors: a priority for Honda
Electric motors are becoming increasingly important as the energy transition extends to various industrial sectors.
Aware of this evolution, Honda places a strong emphasis on this area for the coming years. While the Japanese manufacturer aims for climate neutrality for its automobiles by 2040, there are currently no plans to completely eliminate combustion engines for motorcycles. However, significant investments are being made in electric.
Massive investment in electric two-wheelers
According to Motorrad Online, Honda plans to introduce at least two new electric two-wheel models by 2025, and a total of 30 by 2030, with an annual production reaching approximately four million units.
The investment amounts to about three billion euros. Among these models, three will be derived from the current 125cc category, intended not only for Japan but also for Europe and the United States. There is also consideration of launching an electric Hornet suitable for A1 and possibly A2 driving licenses.
Models in development
Currently in the conceptual stage, the Honda SC, an electric scooter equipped with two removable batteries, is expected in production version by 2025.
Honda is not only focusing on the motorcycles themselves but also on the batteries. The idea is to use traditional lithium-ion batteries in the medium term, but with less flammable materials. In the future, new solid-state batteries are planned.
Alternative ecological approaches
Honda is also exploring other environmentally friendly alternatives, such as research in the field of hydrogen and the conversion to sustainable fuels for certain combustion engines in South America and India.
