Summary
Hero MotoCorp and Zero Motorcycles: an imminent first electric motorcycle
The partnership between the Indian manufacturer Hero MotoCorp and Zero Motorcycles, launched in 2023, should soon bear fruit. Indeed, Hero MotoCorp is preparing to unveil its first electric motorcycle from this collaboration. Despite growing demand, the Indian electric motorcycle market remains underdeveloped. Revolt Motors currently dominates with 6,948 units sold from January to October 2024, followed by a distant 305 Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2s sold over the same period.
A project in an advanced phase
Niranjan Gupta, CEO of Hero MotoCorp, recently stated that the launch of the new motorcycle was on track, although no specific date has yet been announced. During a press conference in mid-November, he mentioned a “medium weight” model with features that remain to be revealed. A more powerful version is also in the plans.
Hero MotoCorp plays the electric card
This foray into the world of electric motorcycles complements Hero MotoCorp’s strategy, which has already entered the electric scooter market through its Vida brand. After a slow start, Vida saw its sales peak at 7,309 units in October 2024, recording an impressive 443% increase compared to the previous year. This dynamic demonstrates the strong potential of the Indian market for electric vehicles.
