Glafit GFR-02: a Japanese innovation
Behind its discreet silhouette, the Glafit GFR-02 folding electric bike integrates advanced fingerprint unlocking technology, offering both security and comfort.
An innovative model presented at VivaTech 2024
The Glafit GFR-02, present at the VivaTech 2024 exhibition, shows that folding electric bikes can be as high-tech as their larger counterparts. It joins models like the GoCycle G4, the Fuell Folld-1, and the Ado Air Carbon, all synonymous with performance and lightness.
Yubi lock unlocking and ignition system
Under its unassuming name, the GFR-02 stands out with its rear wheel unlocking system. Unlike a traditional mechanical lock, the “yubi lock” uses a fingerprint to simultaneously unlock and turn on the bike, with a sliding rain guard.
This functionality can also be managed via a dedicated mobile app.
Technical features that measure up
With its 14-inch wheels, the GFR-02 might seem below the European standards of 16 to 20 inches. However, its wide 2.125-inch tires and disc brakes ensure good stability. It is equipped with a removable 346 Wh battery offering a real autonomy of 34 km after a 3-hour recharge. The bike weighs 19.4 kg.
A practical but still improvable design
The Glafit GFR-02’s folding system is simple and quick, in less than 10 seconds, although it does not include rear wheel locking via a magnet or latch. Its dimensions when folded are compact: 75 x 50 x 60 cm.
Made in Japan, the Glafit GFR-02 is not yet available in Europe. The brand is currently seeking distributors in France and elsewhere in Europe, with a launch planned for 2025 at a price of 1,500 euros, including fenders, lighting, and retractable pedals.
