An innovation in the electric BMX bike market
Have you ever felt that something was missing in the electric bike market, especially for BMX bikes? SkateHut seems to think so and has launched the Flow Street9 eBMX. It is literally an electric BMX bike. This is not the first electric BMX bike we’ve seen. In 2022, we reported on the Chimera Electric BMX which used a ‘high-drive’ motor system that was quite interesting. And in 2017, there was a crowdfunding campaign by Life EV in the United States for their own e-BMX. But the one from SkateHut might be among the first options with a more conventional appearance.

What exactly is it and what is it for? Interestingly, SkateHut specifies on its website that “The Street9 eBMX is NOT a stunt bike and should not be used for jumps or tricks.” So, what’s it for? According to SkateHut, it’s intended “for people who want an electric bike that doesn’t look like their dad’s mountain bike.” It is visibly aimed at urban cyclists looking for something unique to get around town.
It is equipped with a rear hub motor and a 252Wh battery, which, according to the brand, offers up to 40 km of range. It also features a color screen mounted on the handlebars, which controls the assistance and displays your ride statistics.
The 20-inch wheels are fitted with 1.95-inch Kenda Kiniption tires and the frame is made of Hi-Ten steel. The total weight is 17 kg and it costs £1,598.95, although it is currently on sale for just under 1.2k £.
Here’s what Richard Skidmore, Marketing Manager at SkateHut, said: “The Flow Street9 Electric BMX is unique in its kind, which is why we wanted to make it one of SkateHut’s flagship products this summer. With the huge rise in popularity of electric mobility, this electric bike is a beautiful and stylish alternative that will hopefully pave the way for more electric bikes on the market.
“When the Flow Street9 eBMX arrived at our store, it grabbed attention, captivating both our staff and our customers with its sleek design and simple style, filled with technology.”
The bike is available for purchase on the SkateHut website now.
