Brose unveils an innovative electric motor
The Drive³ Peak presented at Eurobike 2023
The Brose brand is about to introduce its latest electric motor, the Drive³ Peak. Presented during Eurobike 2023, this motor was designed to compete with giants Bosch and Shimano. However, its commercialization will be delayed initially expected for 2025.
A delay due to the Brose S Mag
The delay of the Drive³ Peak is mainly attributed to the need to ensure the reliability of the current model, the Brose S Mag, before continuing the development and production of the new motor. The first bikes equipped with the Drive³ Peak are expected in June 2025 with a sale slated for the 2026 model year.
A promising 48-volt motor
The Brose Drive³ Peak innovates with its 48-volt system, unlike the S Mag which operates at 36 volts. This change allows reaching a maximum power of 95 Nm and 600 W, an asset for bikes requiring more power, such as cargo bikes and robust electric mountain bikes.
Features and expectations
With a weight of 2.9 kg, the Drive³ Peak is not the lightest motor, but it is ideal for bike models requiring high power. Brose has opted for a simple chain, abandoning the belt system, thus paving the way for a more diverse range of bikes.
Competition and reliability
Brose positions itself to compete with Shimano EP801 and Bosch Performance Line CX models with this motor. To establish itself, the brand will have to prove the durability of its equipment, a quality put into question by the reliability issues encountered with the first S Mag.
