An unprecedented collaboration for an electric concept
The union of BMW Motorrad Austria and Design & Studio Vagabund
BMW Motorrad Austria has partnered with Design & Studio Vagabund to reinvent the CE 02 electric motorcycle model, transforming it into a “retro-futuristic” eParkourer that marries modern and classic elements. Designed in Austria, this two-wheeler features sleek futuristic lines enhanced with functional retro elements.
Distinctive and innovative elements
Among the notable additions are the OB-4 magic radio and an electric “exhaust” – a stylistic component on an electric model that does not need a traditional exhaust system. The design also incorporates urban and sporty characteristics, such as skateboard grip on the footrests, targeting a younger audience.
A “retro-futuristic” approach
Paul Brauchart, founder and CEO of Vagabund Moto, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: “We were immediately taken when we saw the CE 02 for the first time at the BMW Motorrad Days in Berlin. The overall design of the CE 02 was perfectly suited for us, as at Vagabund, we always seek to innovate and reinterpret existing products in our own way. In this project, we adopted a ‘retro-futuristic’ approach by combining the original highly futuristic design with retro touches, thus offering the viewer a familiar feeling.”
Technical specifications and performance
The BMW CE 02 is equipped with an electric motor capable of delivering a power of 11 kW (with power reduction options to 6 kW or 4 kW). Its energy consumption is less than 6 kWh/100 km and it can reach speeds of up to 95 km/h (or 45 km/h with the power reduction to 4 kW). The battery requires 1 hour and 40 minutes to go from 20% to 80% with fast charging (2 hours and 40 minutes with standard charging, and 90 minutes with standard charging and the power reduction to 4 kW).
Construction and safety
The frame is a double tubular steel construction. It is equipped with an inverted telescopic fork at the front and an adjustable rear shock absorber. Each wheel is fitted with a single disc brake: a two-piston floating caliper at the front and a single-piston floating caliper at the rear.
