A YouTuber Creates a Solar-Powered Electric Car
Unlimited Range, in Theory
An American content creator has developed an electric vehicle capable, in theory, of running indefinitely thanks to solar energy. Although electric cars are constantly evolving, obstacles remain, particularly regarding range. Drivers want more efficient batteries to avoid breakdowns and travel long distances without recharging.
Innovation and Practical Challenges
Drew Builds Stuff, a YouTuber specializing in various constructions, took on the challenge of creating a completely energy-autonomous car. In his recent video, he shows how he designed a vehicle covered with solar panels. These panels, installed on the car and a trailer, collect enough energy to allow for driving without traditional recharging.
Impressive but Limited Performance
Drew reveals that he has equipped his vehicle with two 3000-watt electric motors, allowing it to reach a maximum speed of 45 km/h. During road tests, he was able to drive about 249 kilometers, far beyond the initial maximum range of 72 kilometers thanks to the solar panels. According to him, exceeding 482 kilometers would be possible in ideal weather conditions.
A Promising Experiment
Despite a technical feat, Drew’s vehicle is far from mass production. Some manufacturers, like Lightyear, have attempted similar concepts but encountered difficulties. The solar car is not yet ready for widespread adoption on our roads.
